Cheapest network for USDT payments: how to compare and what to offer

The cheapest network on paper is not always the right one for your customer. What matters is the total cost on your typical ticket and whether the customer already holds USDT on that network. Here is how to think about it.

Three tiers

  • Low fees: Solana, Polygon, BNB Chain, Avalanche, TON and the Ethereum layer-2 networks Base, Arbitrum, Optimism and Mantle. A transfer typically costs a few cents or less.
  • Depends on the sender: TRON. The cost depends on energy and on whether the receiver already holds USDT, so it can be several dollars for a plain sender.
  • High fees: Ethereum mainnet. It suits large amounts, where the fee is a small share.

Why small tickets are sensitive

A network cost of two dollars is 20 percent of a ten dollar order and 0.2 percent of a thousand dollar one. If most of your orders are small, prefer low-fee networks. If they are large, the choice matters less and customer convenience comes first.

Do not drop TRON

TRON is where many customers already hold their USDT. Removing it may cost you more in lost payments than the fee saves. Offer it together with cheap networks and let the customer decide after seeing the fee.

A sensible list

USDT on TRON, BNB Chain and Solana, plus one or two layer-2 networks or Polygon, and Ethereum for large amounts. The live fee for every network on your ticket size is in the calculator on the pricing page.
